World AIDS Day 2024

"Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!"

World AIDS Day (WAD), designated on December 1st, is an excellent opportunity to highlight the effort to eliminate HIV/AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the epidemic. Marked by the red ribbon as a universal symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV (PLHIV), this particular date was founded in 1988 as the first-ever global health day. Every year, WAD proudly unites people worldwide to fight against HIV/AIDS and honours the deceased PLHIV.

Humanity is constantly battling with lethal diseases, of which AIDS is a deadly one. HIV stigma/discrimination is recognised as a formidable barrier to accessing HIV prevention and treatment. With this, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has urged us to confront the inequalities, discrimination, and stigma of PLHIV and called on leaders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals target of ending AIDS by 2030.

This year's theme, "Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right!" underscores the need for every human being to possess the right to access healthcare. WAD reminds us that there is still a need to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and fight prejudice. Let us reaffirm our commitment to caring for every PLHIV and unite in our efforts to encourage all PLHIV to declare, "My Health, My Right!".
